Dear Colleagues,

The Executive Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association are seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from prospective conference hosts for the annual conference and annual general meeting for November 2025 and 2026. The conference rotates between regional areas, capital cities and New Zealand every three years.

EOIs are due to the Executive Committee by 30 September, 2023. After this date, the Executive will review the EOIs and engage in follow up discussions with proposers to determine feasibility. The 2025 conference host will be announced at the 2023 AGM in Wellington, New Zealand.

With approximately 200 financial members, and a broader community of engaged scholars, ANZCA supports vital forums for communications research, acknowledges exceptional work in the field of communications, hosts annual conferences and produces two internationally renowned indexed journals. As an independent association, ANZCA delivers research that is increasingly important and impactful at a time when new media and communication technologies are shaping so much about how we communicate with each other.

Engaging with ANZAC as a Conference Host is a major commitment. The key tasks include hosting the event over several days, designing the call for papers, managing the reviewing process, programming the conference, hosting the many social events as part of the week, and organising keynote and plenary speakers. ANZCA provides financial and infrastructure support (especially for hybridity and accessibility), administration assistance, training on how to run the conference and specialist input on how to plan, run and sunset the conference.

Individuals or organisation that are interested in hosting the 2025 or 2026 ANZCA Conference should send an EOI to President Jonathon Hutchinson at jonathon....@sydney.edu.au by 30 September. The EOI should be no longer than five pages and include the following:

  1. The individuals and organisation(s) involved, and their proposed roles;
  2. The connection of proposers to ANZCA;
  3. List any prior experience proposers have had with organising or hosting a conference;
  4. An argument to support the proposed conference location, and why this aligns with the purpose of ANZCA;
  5. Initial thoughts on local venue options;
  6. Prospective conference dates for the month of November, keeping in mind any major local, national, and international holidays, semester schedules, or other aspects that might affect the timing of the conference;
  7. A firm indication of whether you will be attending ANZCA conference in Wellington and are available to meet for further discussions.

Please contact Dr Jonathon Hutchinson if you have any questions.
