Handbook of AI-based Media Disruption: Emerging Technologies and Multidisciplinary Perspectives Across Sectors

Join Co-editors Steve Collins | Sara Keith| Richard Savery

Date: Wednesday, 29th of April 2026
Time: 3-4pm
Location: Arts Precinct Building , 25 Wally’s Walk, C326

How is AI transforming media industries? From image generators to synthetic newsreaders and automated creative labour, AI is reconfiguring media production, circulation, and consumption. This book launch seminar marks the publication of the Handbook of AI-based Media Disruption: Emerging Technologies and Multidisciplinary Perspectives Across Sectors, an edited volume that offers a wide-ranging examination of AI’s impact on the media industries. Co-editors Steve Collins, Sarah Keith, and Richard Savery will discuss the book’s central themes, including continuity and change in media production, emerging AI-enabled forms, shifting professional norms, evolving audience relationships, and the wider social and economic consequences of automation and synthetic media. Moderated by Chris Muller, the seminar will provide a space to question how AI is reshaping media, and to critically reflect on what these transformations mean for the future of media research and practice.
