City Council Recreation & Culture Fund Opens to Community & Cultural Organizations
NEW ORLEANS - Applications are now open for the New Orleans Recreation & Culture Fund. The fund was created by Councilmember At-Large JP Morrell to provide a merit-based program to fund youth recreation programs, non-profit community organizations, and culture bearers that contribute to the well-being and growth of the New Orleans community. Applications will be received and reviewed by the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
“Too often we talk about what kids are doing wrong and not what we as adults can do to make sure they succeed,” said Council President JP Morrell. “This fund will put nearly $7,000,000 directly into organizations that work with our kids and culture on a daily basis in order to facilitate a better New Orleans for everyone. The children of New Orleans are always a wise investment, and I cannot wait to see their continued growth with this invaluable opportunity.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the City in implementing this impactful grantmaking program to support non-profits working with our young people and supporting our vibrant culture,” said Andy Kopplin, President and CEO of Greater New Orleans Foundation. “One of the core parts of our work at the Greater New Orleans Foundation is strengthening non-profits with grants and training, so we could not be more excited to get started on this initiative.”
“The Recreation and Culture Fund represents our view that empowering our community and matching grassroots leaders with resources is the best way to make change for our city,” said Council Vice President Helena Moreno. “I want to thank Council President Morrell for his leadership on this initiative. I believe we can catalyze lasting change with these new resources by lifting up our culture-bearers, our young leaders, and social entrepreneurs who care about our community and want to build a better New Orleans.”
"Government cannot fix everything. There are so many people and groups who help fill that void,” said District A Councilmember Joe Giarrusso. “With the creation of a fund for community organizations, the Council has the opportunity to help residents across the City with their needs. These local groups, in turn, can efficiently and equitably provide additional resources to serve New Orleanians."
“I’m thrilled to be supporting local organizations that are the backbone of our community,” said District B Councilmember Lesli Harris. “This new fund is one of the many ways the Council is investing in the grassroots efforts, culture bearers, and future leaders who call New Orleans home.”
"We are proud to establish the New Orleans Recreation and Culture Fund, a special fund designed to support our youth and our community,” said District C Councilmember Freddie King III. “This fund is a testament to our commitment to the well-being, development, and growth of New Orleans."
Applications will be open for four weeks. Eligibility requirements and the application can be found at www.grantinterface.com/sl/hvSXdC. Questions regarding the application can be sent to gra...@gnof.org.
