Great day to you,
We’re excited to share a unique and engaging opportunity for young people across New Orleans. Chief of Police Anne Kirkpatrick, in partnership with NOPD and the Office of Youth and Families, is launching the Chief for a Day essay contest and we’d love for your students to participate.
This opportunity is open to youth ages 14–18 who are ready to think creatively about leadership, community, and safety in our city.
Essay Prompts
Please encourage students to respond to the following questions in their essay:
  1. What would be your first decision as Chief and why?
  2. How would you lead? (Kind, brave, fair, creative, etc.)
  3. What is one big idea you have to make New Orleans safer or stronger?
  4. How would you bring people together  officers, youth, families?
  5. Why should you be selected as Chief for a Day?
Submission Details
Students should email their essay to wilneich...@nola.gov and include:
  • Name
  • Age
  • School & Grade
This initiative offers students a fun, meaningful way to express their ideas while gaining exposure to civic leadership and community building.
Thank you for sharing this opportunity with your youth. We look forward to seeing their creativity and leadership shine!

Best,
