Jazz alum Terence Blanchard is making history this week.
Usually, we'd post an update like this on our social media channels and in our monthly newsletter, but the opening of Blanchard's opera, Fire Shut Up in My Bones, at New York's Metropolitan Opera is anything but usual. Not only was Blanchard's work chosen to reopen the Met (tonight!) after the pandemic shuttered it for 18+ months, but it's also the first opera by a Black composer to be featured on the Met's stage in the organization's 138-year history!
Fire Shut Up in My Bones is based on Charles Blow's 2014 memoir of the same name. Learn much more about the production by following some of the links below--including how you can listen to the performance from the comfort of your own home. Congratulations, Terence!
