The Department of Biology at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track position in animal behavior at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position begins July 1, 2014

Vassar is strongly committed to fostering a community that reflects the values of a liberal arts education and to promoting an environment of equality, inclusion and respect for difference.  Vassar College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, and applications from members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged.

We seek a broadly trained evolutionary biologist specializing in animal behavior.  The successful candidate will teach intermediate-level animal diversity and evolutionary genetics; introductory biology; and an advanced-level course on animal behavior.  In addition to their work in the Biology Department, candidates are also expected to participate in the Neuroscience & Behavior Program, including advising and teaching.

The successful candidate will have a dedicated research laboratory and office, a student research assistant, start-up funds, and access to shared departmental facilities and equipment such as the Collins Field Station on the Vassar Ecological Preserve, fully staffed vivarium, and microscopy facilities that include a laser confocal system. Development of a productive research program with student participation is expected. A Ph.D. is required and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Vassar is a highly selective, coeducational liberal arts college of about 2450 undergraduates located in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley seventy-five miles north of New York City.   Vassar is strongly committed to fostering a community that reflects the values of a liberal arts education and to promoting an environment of equality, inclusion and respect for difference.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts, representative reprints, a statement of research interests and goals, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, and three letters of reference.
