The Department of Biological Sciences, Florida Atlantic University, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Behavioral Ecology. We seek an individual with research interests in the functional and/or adaptive significance of animal behavior, regardless of taxon. Preference will be given to candidates whose research includes a field component. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a research program that capitalizes upon the diverse local environments, including coastal marine ecosystems, wetlands, and/or scrub habitats, and the diversity of indigenous and non-indigenous fauna.
The Department offers BS and MS programs in Biological Sciences, and participates in College-wide programs for doctoral degrees in Integrative Biology and MS degrees in Environmental Sciences. Faculty in the Department are located at four campuses including Boca Raton, Davie, Jupiter and the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Ft Pierce. We particularly welcome applicants that complement existing departmental strengths in marine biology, wetland ecology, and neuroscience.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline and post-doctoral experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a strong publication record commensurate with their experience, demonstrated potential for establishing programs of funded research, and clear promise of excellent teaching.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, extramurally funded research program, advise and mentor graduate students, participate in institutional governance, and provide service to the university and scientific community. Teaching will include an undergraduate course in animal behavior or behavioral ecology and other undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
