The Newington Shelter of the Connecticut Humane Society has an immediate opening for a Behavior Manager.  This position will be responsible for the oversight of the training, enrichment and behavior programs for Connecticut Humane at all three shelters.  This position includes but is not limited to conducting canine temperament testing in accordance with SAFER standards (certification will be required), creating and maintaining the shelter dog training program at all three shelters and creating and implementing behavior modification plans for behaviorally challenged animals both in the shelter and adopted from the shelter.  The incumbent will be responsible for the staff management, establishing and driving a culture of excellent customer service, providing regular, ongoing feedback and timely evaluations as well as working with the district manager to addresses all employee problems and issues. The responsibilities of this position are all designed for the purpose of extending the psychological and emotional longevity of the shelter animals. This position will include a partial weekend schedule.  


This full-time position with benefits is ideal for someone with at least three to five years’ experience working in animal behavior or training, some experience in a shelter is required.  SAFER certification is preferred. Two to three years of supervisory experience required.  Degree in animal behavior is preferred. This position must also have strong verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for a creative, customer service oriented individual who will work well with the public and the team. The manager will work from the main office in Newington, but there will be frequent travel within Connecticut.  Valid driver’s license required

Requirements:


A minimum of 3 - 5 years behavioral or training experience. Degree in animal behavior is preferred. SAFER Certification preferred.


2-3 years of supervisory experience.


Flexibility to handle continually changing priorities and demands as well as different communication styles. 


Partial weekend schedule.


Ability to travel within Connecticut.


Valid driver’s license.
