I am looking to hire a field assistant to help with a study of vocal communication in Carolina chickadees and tufted titmice in field sites near the Purdue West Lafayette, IN campus. This is an NSF funded project with the goal of understanding social correlates of vocal complexity in these species. The project involves behavioral observations of birds in the field, sound recording, bird-banding to facilitate social network analysis, and conducting some playback experiments. Applicants should be driven and self-motivated, able to work independently, coordinate undergraduate help, and work closely with graduate students. A car is necessary. The duration of the position is initially 1 year starting mid-August. Salary is $2700/month.
Applicants should have experience in field avian behavior, and preferably bird
banding experience.
Email your CV along with a letter of why you want to join the project, relevant
experience, your long term goals, and 3 letters of recommendation. Any
questions can be directed to jlu...@purdue.edu.
