The Department of Psychology at James Madison University (JMU) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August 2014 whose emphasis is in the area of Behavioral Neuroscience. A scholar who utilizes comparative models in understanding behavior is preferred. Primary teaching responsibilities will include regularly teaching our undergraduate Biopsychology course. Additional teaching responsibilities will include courses within the faculty member’s areas of expertise and interest that are needed by our department such as a neuroscience-related capstone seminar or laboratory experience, Comparative Animal Behavior, Drugs and Behavior, Statistics, Research Methods or General Education courses.  The faculty member in this position will be expected to develop an active program of scholarship that involves students in research. Supervision of honors projects and independent study projects are typical components of a faculty member’s assignment. Our faculty serve as academic advisors to Psychology majors and contribute to service activities of the department and university.

The minimum qualifications for this position include: completed doctoral degree in Biological Psychology or Behavioral Neuroscience by fall 2014; prior college teaching experience; strong interest in undergraduate instruction and knowledge of best practices in Psychology Pedagogy and documented history of scholarship and interest in continuing research that engages undergraduate students. We also value other strengths that candidates might bring such as contributions to our M.A. in Psychological Sciences Program, our Behavior Analysis concentration or demonstrated potential for obtaining external funding for research.
