Volunteer field assistant position for Columbian
ground squirrel stress research project. Duration of position is April through July 2014.
Duties include, trapping/tagging/marking of individual squirrels, monitoring of breeding calendar, collection of behavioural data, collection and processing of blood samples. Previous field research experience is required and experience with blood sampling is preferred. Qualified individual must be able to tolerate (enjoy!) isolated field conditions (no cell phones, capricious email, no running water), intense insects, close living quarters and long hours in the forest. Qualified individual is also expected to be able to work independently, keeping a minute record of tasks to perform throughout the season and help with data entry. The position is volunteer, but accommodation (not food) will be covered. This is a great opportunity for gaining field research experience and for networking/connecting with an international mix of people/researchers with a common interest in behavioural ecology and Nature. The area is beautiful with much to offer in terms of wildlife!
