Visiting Assistant Professor of Animal Behavior
Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution in Massachusetts, is
accepting applications for a half-time (.5 FTE) faculty position in Animal Behavior/Comparative
Cognition to begin July 1, 2016. This visiting position is for three years, with the plan of
conversion to a regular half-time position pending budgetary, academic, and teaching
considerations.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. by time of appointment in a relevant field such as animal behavior,
cognitive ethology, comparative psychology, evolutionary biology, behavioral ecology, or
computational biology. The position is located in the School of Cognitive Science, and we
expect applicants to be interested in collaborating in teaching and/or research with colleagues in
a range of fields including psychology, neuroscience, computer science, philosophy, biology, and
linguistics.
Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to engage undergraduates in science through
innovative teaching and collaborative research. Responsibilities include designing and teaching
two courses per year, pursuing an active research program, student advising and mentoring
students engaged in advanced independent research projects, at the half-time level.
