This week, Mars and the WALTHAM® Centre for Pet Nutrition released their innovative research on how interactions with animals positively affect people’s physical, mental and social well-being.
Highlights from the research include:
• interacting with horses improved adolescents’ self-awareness, self-management, personal responsibility, decision-making and relationship skills;
• interaction with dogs was shown to be an effective approach for preserving and even enhancing the mental health and physical function of people with dementia; and
• pet ownership helps improve social networks and access to social support, with pet owners more likely to get to know new people and make new friends.
See attached for the official press release with details on the three studies.
