Assistant of Animal Behavior.  A position is available in the Department of Animal Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida.  This is a 12-month tenure-track position with a 60% research and 40% teaching assignment.  Major duties are to develop and implement a strong research and teaching program in livestock behavior and welfare that will benefit the Florida livestock industry.  The research focus will include scientific measures of livestock well-being through the study of livestock behavior, stress physiology, immunology, neurophysiology, and cognition that will have application to current livestock agricultural practices. Emphasis on livestock species is expected. The teaching program will include an undergraduate course in the area of Animal Biology, collaborate with other members in the Department in the undergraduate curriculum, and also teach a graduate course that might include applied livestock behavior and welfare, research methods in livestock behavior and well-being, ethics of livestock agriculture, or another area considered appropriate. The faculty member will participate in extension programs as appropriate.  Qualifications are an earned Ph.D. (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Animal Science or Veterinary Science with emphasis on animal behavior, welfare, or a closely-related discipline is required. Postdoctoral experience is desired but not necessary. Experience with livestock species is strongly preferred. Screening of applicants will begin September 15, 2013. The position will be available November 1, 2013 and will be filled as soon as an acceptable applicant is available.
