The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to identify the social drivers of survival and fecundity in two resident killer whale populations. Working with project partners in the USA and Canada the project will use multigenerational demographic and social databases that span over three decades. By applying a of combination life history analysis, theoretical modelling, social network analysis and behavioural observations this project will provide the first empirical test in a non-human animal of the general theoretical framework proposed to explain reproductive senescence in natural populations.
The post will include data management and analysis, modelling of social and life history data, field visits to the study populations, research planning, collaborative team working, preparing reports and publications, organising meetings and presenting research findings to a range of different audiences.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and should have excellent data management and statistical analysis skills and proven experience of working with complex quantitative data sets. Experience of social and life history analysis and modelling techniques would be an advantage.
