In 1988 Dr. Terry L. Maple, former director of Zoo Atlanta and Professor of Psychology at the Georgia Institute of Technology,  interviewed Professor Heini Hediger in the Africa House of the Zürich Zoo where Hediger secured his reputation as the most innovative and scholarly zoo director in the world. In a thirty minute interview, edited by Dr. Maple, Hediger discusses his philosophy of zoo management, the importance of science in zoos, and his ideas of how zoo habitats should function to benefit the animals.
