Hi, we are already looking into this issue.

There are some possible reasons might cause the Preview doesn't work.

Some issue has a failure in the HAL on specific Samsung devices, it requires a device reboot to recover the issue.

While the HAL issue happens, all the camera application might fail to open.

Can your team have a try to open the original camera application while the issue is happening? We will appreciate to have more information about this issue.

Hi, we are still under investigating on this issue, 

the log ERROR_CAMERA_SERVICE means the camera HAL gets unpredicted fail that might need to clarify whether we can workaround it by specific operation.

The camera HAL dead lock issue had reported to the Samsung team already, and we are looking into the other possible reason that might cause the camera fail.

Additionally, there is a fix for some Preview black screen issue will be addressed in the Aug. release, it possibly can help to improve the stability for the Samsung devices.

The fix can help to recover the issue while the view switching in rapidly. Hope this can help on the issue you meet on the device.

If your team still gets the issue in the new version, collect some log and reproduce steps (if possible) will be helpful for further analysis.

Hi, thanks for the video and log!

We notice that the device HAL layer might fail with the ERROR_CAMERA_DEVICE. 

And the ERROR_CAMERA_DEVICE might be possible to recover by reopening the camera device.

The error causes an internal state stuck. We are trying to prepare a workaround for it.

Will update the information to you once the fix is ready.

We have an update to force close & re-open the camera if it receives an onError callback. This can help the on the ERROR_CAMERA_DEVICE case.
The update will be in the Oct. release.
You can have a try on the new version, it will recover the Preview from the camera device error.

Can you try using beta11 and alpha18 ?     This version contains some fix that might improve the black screen issue.  It would be nice if you can repro again using the beta 11 and alpha18
