Hi all

Is there any way to ask for the wide angle camera in the camera selector or any other configuration?
I have red that we can not provide camera ids to set the desired camera but still the need for a use case wide angle exists.
If not possible today, any plan to implement that?

Hi Steeve,

For CameraX to support wide angle cameras we are working with manufacturers to expose those via camera2 first. Some devices indeed do so today in an non-determinstic manner. Will keep you posted as we progress, thanks!

Hi,

I am facing a similar problem as i've tried to access the wide camera on my new galaxy A71 without success. when i try to get the camera list i only have two cameras listed (id=0 and id=1) ! (classical back and front cameras)

Previously, on the s10 there was a third camera id (id=2) to use the wide camera, … but not on the A71.

I wonder if this problem has something in relation with the camera2 api...

Hi Frederic,

The wide angle camera is very manufacturer and device specific, i.e. some manufacturers choose to expose wide angle cameras to developers and some don't. Even those that expose the wide angle only do so on certain devices.

On the camera2 framework side we are advocating for adoption of the LOGICAL_MULTI_CAMERA API within manufacturers so it's more consistent for developers (and CameraX). In the meantime you can use camera2 interop to switch to the wide angle cameras (note that some of the promises offered on the default cameras may not hold true, depending on the device, when using camera2 interop).

Thanks,
Vinit
