Hi

we are working on building applications that could showcase features of Android Automotive OS.

Regarding Polestar 2 emulator.
Initially, I had the latest stable release of Android Studio i.e. 4.1, after configuring the polestar image on SDK Update Site the x86 image was missing in the AVD configuration.
However, on the polestar developer site, it is advised to use the canary version of Android studio (4.2 or higher). So I was able to configure the polestar 2 emulator through the canary build and able to use it for testing apps built from stable android studio.

Is this the normal behavior or did I miss any configurations on the stable build?

The Automotive Intel x86 Atom System Image is still missing from either of the Android studios. Not able to find/list the generic system image mentioned here.

About customizing HMI,
Need to build components to demonstrate HVAC, sensor systems. Found details here regarding customizing the status bar, icons, System UI, customizing settings parameters. Is there any sample code available for reference? Any help is highly appreciated.

yes, you will need to use the canary or beta versions of studio.

is that missing for P Or Q or both ?

Are you trying to build an unbundled app for this - hvac app ?

Yes, It is missing from both P and Q, please find the screenshot in the attachment.

About HMI apps,
Not exactly the unbundled version, for example on the home screen of the emulator, we have wifi symbol on the top left and time on the right side.
Need to customize those icons. Ability to modify the status bar. In the settings screen, we have options for network, sound, etc, I want to display only a few options on that page.
And we have different icons for showing HVAC systems (seat warmers, etc) with options to select different levels(3 bars), need to customize those icons.
My understanding of this portal was it allows customization of elements including the navigation bar, status bar, and volume controls.
How to go about it? Are there any samples available?

These icons are part of the SystemUI, you have to build your own AOSP Systemp Image with required changes.

Thanks for your reply.  I am fairly new to Automotive development.

If I understand correctly, I need to make use of APIs mentioned here and build my own system image.

And are those UI components are completely developed using Android Studio or we need other tools as well?

Also, can this system image also be deployed on the polestar emulator?

Are there any samples or any development guide available?  It would d be really helpful.
