Amp-story-shopping provides a configurable, templated shopping experience within Web Stories. It enables publishers and creators to create Web Story narratives that spotlight products they love and unlocks new paths to monetization.
- Value for end users:
- Allows users to browse and explore products within a Web Story
- The consistent UX and distinct final call to action ensures users can safely learn about a product without leaving the context of the Web Story
- Value for publishers and creators:
- Enables easy, low effort tagging of shoppable products within a Story
- Gives publishers options to add richer context (e.g. link to reviews) to help drive the decision to buy
- Publishers retain control over the destination of the buy link and can monetize via a store or affiliate program of their choice
Check out the fully interactive Modern Interiors Demo Web Story.
- NOTE: be sure to opt in to nightly to ensure the latest features available during your testing
- As always, Web Stories with this component will fail validation until the component is fully launched
- Copy-and-paste examples and docs can be found at the amp-story-shopping dev preview
We anticipate fully launching this feature before the end of April and encourage you to use this developer preview to start integrating this feature into your creation tools.
- This feature unlocks a powerful set of commercial capabilities for creators. As a tool, do consider ways in which you can guide creators / publishers to using this capability sensibly and sparingly to ensure that shopping content does not hurt the end user experience. We’re happy to provide suggestions and tips (ways to reach out to us below)
- In particular, initial discussions with publishers / creators suggest that ease of use will be key to the adoption of this capability. Do consider ways in which you can simplify adoption by integrating with shopping platforms or affiliate networks to simplify populating the product tags
- The API and UX are near final (and ready for you to start developing against). Do give us any feedback you see.
As always, feel free to reach out to us on Github or Slack with any questions, feedback or requests.
Thanks,
Web Stories Team
