Dear All,

Welcome to a new year of DSI activities!

The DSI welcomes Prof. Sakeef Karim (Sociology) to its advisory board, and Annabelle Chen’27 and Val Gualdron’28 as DSI communication interns.

Below you find an (almost finalized) schedule of DSI events for this year. I’m extremely excited about talks by our faculty, staff, alumni, and parents, and by external speakers, on many different topics, from avalanche forecasting to studying galaxies, to museum metadata and Puerto Rico census data.

All talks are in SCCE A131, starting at 4pm with refreshments. We are working towards organizing child care in the SCCE, stay tuned.

I invite you to join us on Tuesday 9/9, 4-6pm, at the Powerhouse, for a year launch / networking event. If the weather cooperates, we can enjoy refreshments outside.

Please reach out to the DSI board at any time with feedback, suggestions, and questions, by writing to dsi-...@amherst.edu <mailto:dsi-...@amherst.edu> .

I hope to see you at some, if not all, the following events.
