Please join us this Thursday, 2/22, from 4pm, in SCCE E110 for the first
talk of the Data Science Initiative speaker series (details below).
These talks are open to the public, and meant to be accessible to a
wide, non-technical audience.
Light refreshments and beverages will be served before/during the talk.
Speaker: Asst. Prof. Lillian Pentecost (Computer Science)
Title: New Hardware to Supercharge Data Science
Abstract:
In today's data-driven landscape, the success of data science endeavors
hinges not only on sophisticated algorithms and analysis for scientific
and societal questions, but also on the efficient utilization of
hardware resources. In the past decade, a diverse array of hardware
solutions have emerged from both major technology companies like Google,
NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Amazon, as well as start-ups and academic
projects. These solutions are designed to accelerate data processing,
with a particular focus on enhancing the speed and efficiency of machine
learning applications. Come along and take a tour of the myriad
available and emerging hardware solutions for enabling efficient and
effective future data science. This talk will explore recent and near
future advancements and provide insights into how and when you can
harness their power for your own work.
