Wisdom for Social Media Managers in Academic Libraries: Lessons in Strategy, Engagement, Content Creation and More

Date: Thursday, January 8, 2026 | 1:00-2:00 p.m. ET

Location: Zoom Webinar Register

Social media is both a powerful tool for reaching academic library audiences and a challenge to manage, especially doing so alone and while wearing many different (and time-consuming) hats. To help busy, overwhelmed academic library social media managers clean up their library’s current accounts and set them up for future success, Tanner Lewey will share lessons learned through 8 years of managing social media at various libraries and higher education institutions. She will offer wisdom and best practices for developing a social media strategy, getting organized, creating content, and engaging authentically with your institution’s students, faculty, and staff.

Speaker Bio: Tanner Lewey has managed social media accounts in libraries and higher education for 8 years at various institutions, including the University of Illinois Chicago (IL), California State University, Stanislaus, and McDaniel College (MD). She has published and presented on social media topics like strategy development, short-form video content, and staying relevant with college-age audiences in Public Services Quarterly and the Library Marketing and Communications Conference (LMCC). Tanner currently creates social media content for the marketing committee of the Library Marketing and Communications Group (LMCG), the nonprofit that orchestrates LMCC, and is an adjunct faculty librarian at Harper College in Palatine, IL. She earned her MSLIS from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a BS in English and History from Northwest Missouri State University.
