Ohio University Libraries just opened two positions in their research services department. We are interested in finding the best candidates for our positions. We encourage potential applicants, including new and early career librarians, to consider how their education, work experience, and skills might meet and align with the minimum and preferred qualifications of this position. Research Services Scholarly Impact & Social Sciences Librarian https://www.ohiouniversityjobs.com/postings/50324 
Reporting to the head of research services, the research services scholarly impact librarian plays a critical role in executing the University Libraries’ strategic initiatives and fulfilling the University’s mission by providing scholarly impact supports to Ohio University researchers. The successful candidate will help researchers analyze and articulate their scholarly research impact through both traditional and alternative metrics and assist with promoting their scholarly output through the use of identifiers and other current and emerging programs. Additionally, this librarian will engage with campus partners to support adherence to open data mandates, collaborate with researchers to facilitate the dissemination of open data to the public, and will provide guidance on open access publishing models. The research services scholarly impact librarian also will also serve as a subject specialist within the social sciences and provides instruction, reference, and consultation services to faculty and students in assigned academic areas. Serving as a member of the social sciences disciplinary team, they will cooperatively build sustainable collections for the University’s research and instructional needs.
      
      Position Responsibilities:
  • Provides consultation services, workshops, and guides to faculty and graduate student researchers to help them articulate their research impact.
  • Partners with faculty and campus units to understand and promote the University’s scholarly research impact through both traditional and alternative metrics.
  • Assists faculty and graduate students in promoting their scholarly output via scholarly identifiers and other current and emerging programs that enhance or improve scholarly impact for the campus.
  • Manages the integrations and promotion of ORCID and other scholarly identifier programs for the campus.
  • Engages faculty and graduate students to support adherence to open data mandates.
  • Promotes open access publishing models and provides guidance to faculty and graduate students on read and publish opportunities.
  • Partners with researchers to find solutions for hosting open data to the public, including the OHIO Open Library.
  • Collaborates with department members, library colleagues, and other University units to develop and provide services, programming, and digital learning resources to support undergraduate and graduate student research initiatives.
  • Provides training to researchers on library resources and scholarly tools such as Zotero, NVivo+, SPSS, or other research applications.
  • Serves as subject specialist to one more academic areas within the social sciences; provides consultation, instruction, and reference services to faculty and students in assigned subject areas.
  • As a member of the Social Sciences Disciplinary Team, works collaboratively and cooperatively to build and maintain collections that support curriculum and research needs. Partners with team members to provide basic lower-level instruction, reference, and consultation services to students in the social sciences.
  • Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional, national, and/or international professional bodies as part of a continuing commitment to bringing best practices and innovative services to the Libraries.
  • Serves on Libraries committees, task forces, and/or other groups in support of advancing the Libraries’ strategic goals.

Reporting to the head of research services, the research services student support librarian plays a critical role in executing the University Libraries’ strategic initiatives and fulfilling the University’s mission by delivering high-impact research library programming and services for undergraduate and graduate students. This position will establish and enhance relationships with student research and creative activity programs and provide general outreach and support services to those groups. As a member of the research services department, this librarian works with other team members in supporting University data research needs and provides consultations, training, and guides to enhance data literacy. The research services student support librarian will also serve as subject specialist with a focus on the humanities and provides instruction, reference, and consultation services to faculty and students in assigned academic areas. Serving as a member of the arts and humanities disciplinary team, they will cooperatively build sustainable collections for the University’s research and instructional needs.

      Position Responsibilities:
  • Provides high impact programming, instruction, workshops, and other support to undergraduate researchers and scholars, including OHIO honors and HTC programs.
  • Coordinates with campus partners and library colleagues to support student research initiatives and creative activity including the Student Research Expo EXPO, Dissertation Writing Retreat, and Graduate Research Series.
  • Supports the work of the department by providing data research needs and data literacy via consultations, training, and guides.
  • Provides expertise and best practices on the use of current and emerging research applications and technologies for the discovery, analysis, presentation, and visualization of data.
  • Collaborates with department members, library colleagues, and other University units to develop and provide services, programming, and digital learning resources to support undergraduate and graduate student research initiatives and creative activity.
  • Provides training to student researchers on library resources and scholarly tools such as Zotero NVivo+, Hathi Trust Research Center, or other research applications.
  • Serves as subject specialist to one more academic areas within the humanities; provides consultation, instruction, and reference services to faculty and students in assigned subject areas.
  • As a member of the Arts & Humanities Disciplinary Team, works collaboratively and cooperatively to build and maintain collections that support curriculum and research needs. Partners with team members to provide basic lower-level instruction and consultation services to students in the arts and humanities.
  • Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional, national, and/or international professional bodies as part of a continuing commitment to bringing best practices and innovative services to the Libraries.
  • Serves on Libraries committees, task forces, and/or other groups in support of advancing the Libraries’ strategic goals.
