About the Workshop
The workshop aims to bring together research in cognitive science, formal ontology, knowledge representation, and AI, fostering interdisciplinary exchange among researchers interested in different approaches to knowledge representation.
CAOS investigates fundamental cognitive phenomena and concepts across language, psychology, knowledge representation and reasoning, with a focus on how they can be formally modelled. CAOS aims to investigate the interplay between cognitive phenomena, experimental psychology, their formal representation and computational implementation in AI systems, while bringing together different perspectives on understanding and modelling the complexity of human cognition.
We welcome contributions investigating the ontological foundations or formal representation of cognitive phenomena and capacities, including concept invention and combination, categorisation, defeasible and analogical reasoning, abstraction, and related cognitive processes. We are also interested in works addressing the cognitive and epistemological adequacy of formal frameworks, systems or architectures, particularly in relation to current developments in AI.

CAOS invites paper contributions related (but not restricted) to the following areas:
Ontologies of cognitive phenomena, including their relationship to LLMs and other AI systems
Formal models and AI approaches for abstraction
Formal models and AI approaches for analogical reasoning
Logic and Cognition, also in the context of hybrid AI systems
Formal representation of cognitive structures/functions/processes (e.g., Conceptual Spaces, Neural-Symbolic Integration)
Knowledge Representation and Common-Sense reasoning
Formalization of language, affordances and language acquisition in embodied AI
Cognitive development from an ontological perspective
Integration of ontologies with large language models for enhanced cognition
Knowledge acquisition and categorization in AI and Robotics
Concept-based computational creativity, concept invention and concept combination
Type of Contributions
We accept 3 types of contribution:
Abstract for presentation only: 2 pages
Short papers: 6-8 pages
Full research papers: max. 10-14 pages
The proceedings of the workshops will be published as a joint volume in the CEUR Workshop Proceedings series (template).
