Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for a special session named “Digital Twins and Cyber-Physical Systems for the Protection and Resilience of Critical Infrastructures” at the upcoming 5th IEEE International Conference on Human-Machine Systems (ICHMS 2025), to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from May 26-28, 2025.
Abstract:
The health and security of a country always passes through the protection of its critical infrastructures, which are the essential systems, networks, and assets vital for a country both from a services, security and economic point of view. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) play an important role by ensuring the smooth, efficient, and secure operation of critical infrastructures, while Digital Twins (DTs) techniques and technologies also bring new approaches to monitor critical infrastructures, facilitating their preservation with analysis and prediction activities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) for anomaly and issues detection, but also LLMs and Chatbots for supporting human Situation Awareness and Decision Making, are crucial and revolutionary for critical infrastructure protection, including but not limited to Cultural Heritage safeguarding. The use of the paradigms of CPSs and DTs, even combined and with the support of AI technologies, bring new possibilities related to the protection of a nation's critical assets through advanced technology, strategic planning, and continuous monitoring. This session will explore the roles of DTs and CPSs in enhancing the resilience, the maintenance and safeguard of critical infrastructures, considering all the aspect of homeland security, for protection against internal and external threats in critical assets related to energy, transportation, healthcare, communication, financial systems, cultural heritage and other sectors in which the disruption or damages of their critical infrastructure can have severe economic, social, and security consequences.
