CPF: Special session on Emerging Technologies for History and Memory. Cultural and Industrial Heritage Between Complexity and Digital Transformation (ETech-CH).

The special session will be hosted by the 4th International Conference on Visual Pattern Extraction and Recognition for Cultural Heritage Understanding (VIPERC 2025), in Pescara; Italy, on 3-4 December 2025.

This special session examines how emerging technologies—such as AI, generative AI, digitization, and digital infrastructures—are reshaping the preservation, access, and enhancement of cultural, historical, and industrial heritage. It adopts a transdisciplinary approach, bringing together historians, engineers, IT developers, and public institutions to explore digital transitions in heritage management. The session encourages dialogue between disciplines to align technological functionalities with goals of conservation, research, and documentation, while also reflecting critically on the interpretative impacts and potential risks of these technologies in shaping collective memory. We welcome ongoing research reports and application papers in the area of innovative technologies (especially generative based aI tools) for Collective Memory management.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Generative AI and Collective Memory: Potential, Limitations, and Ethical Implications
- Digital technologies for the modeling and analysis of cultural and industrial landscapes
- Innovative approaches to digitization and heritage research
- Tools and methodologies for the documentation, protection, and enhancement of industrial heritage

Important dates:

Submission deadline: 10th September 2025
Acceptance date: 15th October 2025
Camera-ready and registration: 5th November 2025
