The Tenth Image Schema Day
ISD10@TriCoLore 2026

December 1-4, 2026
Bressanone/Brixen, Italy

It is our pleasure to invite you to the 10th anniversary of the Image Schema Day workshop series!

As in previous years, ISD10 is a networking event that invites researchers on image schemas, conceptual primitives and spatiotemporal reasoning from a broad range of scientific disciplines to present their research and discuss ideas for future projects. Unlike many other workshops that cover multiple topics within a single discipline or main methodology, the Image Schema Day invites researchers from all disciplines and methodologies but focuses on a single main topic.

At the beginning of December, the ISD10 joins the umbrella event "TriCoLore" to spend a few winter days in beautiful Bressanone/Brixen (more info below). Plan for snowy mountaintops, Glühwine/Kinderpunsch at the Christmas market and great scientific exchange!

Bringing out the "big guns" for the anniversary, the event will take place in the beautiful historic building of
PTH Brixen College (see photo). We also offer budget accommodation on the premises; however, there are a limited number of rooms available, so try to register early!

Submissions
The workshop accepts three kinds of submissions:
  • Abstracts for presentation only: 2 pages
(NOTE: these are not included in the proceedings)
  • Short papers: 6-8 pages
  • Full research papers: 10-14 pages
Topics of interest with (the broadest interpretation of) an image-schematic focus include:
  • conceptual primitives in artificial intelligence
  • analysis of conceptual metaphors
  • linguistic analysis
  • formalisation of affordances and force dynamics
  • spatiotemporal reasoning
  • commonsense reasoning
  • conceptual modelling
  • use cases of embodied cognition
  • formal approaches to analogical reasoning
  • formal concept analysis
  • applications in cognitive robotics
  • image-schematic interface design
  • compositional art and literature analysis
All submissions will be peer-reviewed, and accepted contributions will be included in the joint TriCoLore proceedings (CEUR-WS, Scopus-indexed) and presented at the workshop! At least one author needs to register and physically attend the event.

Formatting and submission instructions will be made available on the event website. As organisers of TriCoLore, we are also planning a special issue in KI-Künstliche Intelligenz for extended versions of selected papers.
Important dates:
  • Submission opens: August 1st
  • Abstract submission deadline: September 7th
  • Paper submission deadline: September 18th
  • Notification of acceptance: October 25th
  • Camera-ready version due: November 16th

The Umbrella Event TriCoLore
TriCoLore I and II took place in 2017 and 2018 in Bolzano, and we are happy to see a revival of this great umbrella conference. This time the conference will take place in the PTH building in Bressanone/Brixen, with registration fees around 200 euros (exact number to come) for the whole event. If you are interested in conference-based accommodation, we recommend registering as soon as possible due to the limited number of rooms.

In addition to ISD10, TriCoLore contains the following workshops/gatherings:

We are looking forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the ISD workshop series and would love for you to join us!
