Well, as it turns out it's a good thing the glasses fit nicely in that smart glasses case on Amazon. Since the glasses apparently have to be on to be charged, that means that they'll be draining the case's battery the entire time they are in the charging case regardless of whether they need recharging or not. This is kind of strange to me since all my other mobile devices can be charged on or off. So unless my glasses need charging I will be storing them in the Amazon case.

Many devices definitely have a physical on and off switch and they will stay switched off when they are plugged in, but the iPhone and Apple Watch are 2 other examples of devices which will also turn themselves on when you plug them in even if you powered them off before.

Yes the iPhone will turn back on if you plug it in after you power it off but it will stay off if you plug it in then power off the phone. I tried that today with the glasses and they turned off but then a few seconds later they turned back on.

I don't know about the watch because I don't have one, but I do know that you can turn the phone off while it is plugged in or on a wireless charging stand and the battery still charges. So being on isn't necessary to charge the battery.
