Well, today I had a couple of errands to run so I decided to take my glasses with me. This time my glasses were already connected to my hotspot so I didn't have to mess with that. From now on that's where I'm going to leave them. While at home when my phone is connected to my WiFi that's where the hotspot's traffic will go s o there's no need to take the glasses off the hotspot.

This time I didn't even bother to try live AI since I have never had anything like a successful session with it. At first there were no audio prompts so I never knew when I could ask question while using scene description, but now that the audio prompts are working, scene description has been very useful. I have also found that you can ask anything, not just questions about the scene, for example I asked what the time was and got it.

One of my stops was to my bank, once I got in the door scene description told me where the tellers were so I could go straight there to get my business with them taken care of. Scene description also helped me find the door when it was time to leave. It was disappointing that live AI is still pretty much AWOL, but at least scene description was able to fill in.

When it is time to order the final glasses, I do hope that there will be size options available, these glasses are a bit too big for me. I also hope that they redesign the arms so that the part that goes over and behind your ears is rubberised and flexible so they can be adjusted to improve the fit. That was one thing I did like about the Envision Ally Solos glasses. I would also like to see some kind of tactile marking on the top and/or bottom of the left arm to show where the touch panel is without actually touching it. I keep missing it.

In conclusion these glasses are getting better but still have a ways to go. Ah well, what dcan you expect from a beta? And that's why there's a Pioneer's edition program.

I still want to have my glasses and the app forget my home WiFi, since that option doesn't seem to exist, I will probably have to do a factory reset on the glasses and uninstall, then reinstall the app. A project for later.

I agree that these glasses are improving .  there is a learning curve with this technology and device. In my opinion there are 2 main factors when learning, testing and using the glasses. The first is knowing how to interact with AI and number 2  learning how to use the features on the glasses.. The Echo Vision glasses are most definitely made for our community. I would ask everyone using the Pioneer glasses to experiment with the features and give useful feedback.  I also like the charging option of connecting a external battery. The charging case seems to have a few issues but, if needed there is time to correct the problems.

Knock on wood but so far my case hasn't given me any problems.

And as far as learning how to use features. At first I couldn't figure out how to communicate with the AI to ask questions in scene description mode, the problem turned out to be that there were no audio cues to tell me when the glasses were listening and when they weren't. Now the audio cues are there and I can have a decent converstation with scene description, even asking it questions that require it take a new picture as well as questions about the picture already taken. That's a 1,000% improvement over the version with no audio cues.

Now if only I could get Live AI to work as well, but it is still a beta in the beta, or is that what they call an alpha?

WHAT DID YOU DO TO ENABLE AUDIO CUES?

I honestly don't know, it wasn't anything I was trying to do to turn them on, when they started playing I didn't know there were supposed to be cues, so I figured they were added in one of the updates I've received since I got my glasses, which was on December 15th.

Oh WELL, I GUESS WE ARE STIL IN THE DARK AS TO WHAT ACTIVATES AUDIO CUES.

I know that for a while I could not use my glasses at all because every time I launched the EchoVision app on my iPhone it would show me a blank screen that I could not get out of except to terminate the app in the app switcher. Finally I got it to display normally after numerous attempts and at that time I switched my glasses from my home WiFi to my mobile hotspot so I wouldn't have to the next time I wanted to take my glasses with me when I went out because now even if the app shows me a blank screen again, I'm already on the mobile hotspot. I had intended to just leave it this way but yesterday I discovered that doing that drained my battery to the point I had to plug my phone in or have it turn itself off. So now my glasses are back on my home WiFi.

For the past week the EchoVision app has behaved itself and no blank screens ever showed up again, knock on wood.

I do now keep my glasses paired with my phone but they are disconnected so my phone's audio comes through the phone. I think, but don't know for sure if that is why my app is now working and not giving me any more blank screens or if an update to the app has fixed that problem. I have apps set up to update automatically. Even so, an updated app should say that it was recently updated and as far as I know the EchoVision app hasn't been updated since I got my glasses.

I am hoping that with the EchoVision app now behaving, the next time I go out, switching to my mobile hotspot won't be such a problem any more. It would still be nice if the glasses would switch automatically but that seems to be a hit or miss proposition. Some people get lucky and some don't. And I seem to be on the unlucky side of things there.

Maybe these glasses jut need time to settle into their new home.

Hygiene, you were fully warned about the hotspot draining the battery on the phone when you connected to echo vision glasses. And below in this message, you’re acting as if you are quite surprised that it drained it. I warned you if you did this that it would bring the battery this is why if you’re gonna use the hotspot you need to carry a charger or a battery pack with you when you wanna go out and use the glasses connected to the hotspot.
