Reading mode

If I am correct with my understanding, there are two different reading modes. The only thing I see in manual is to press right side three times. When I do this, it has me position the item a certain way. It the tells me to lower item. Then it tells me what was on that item. I thought there was a read mode that continuously read. Like for a book. Am I wrong with my assumption?
