update failure with initial setup

Greetings fellow EchoVision users. I received my glasses late yesterday. I fully charged the glasses and the charging case last night.  This morning I am doing the initial setup and am stuck at a system update.  The glasses are connected. I've successfully set up my Wi-Fi connection for my home Wi-Fi. The download part of the installation completes fine.  It gets to 92% on the installation it comes up with an "update error" screen.  No details provided on the nature of the failure.

FWIW my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Android v16.

I've retried the update a half a dozen times with the same result.  I've tried it with the glasses powered on and on my head and I've tried it with the phone in the charging case.  Same results.  I've tried shutting the power off on the glasses, waiting a while (~5 minutes), then powering them back on and also shutting down the companion app and restarting it.  I made sure the companion app was up to date as well before doing anything.

FWIW my companion app is part of the beta for Android.  The companion app version is 1.3.1.

I haven't yet contacted support on this as there is a good chance there might be some user error here given this is my first attempt at using the device.

Having just started the initial setup I have not yet been added or invited to join the EchoVision Pioneer's Google Group as yet, so I have not asked their as yet.

   firmware version: 2025.1104.01
and the ones attempting to be installed:
   system version: 2026.0110.01
   firmware version: 2025.1204.01
