Forwarding from Buddy:

Y’all,

We’ve had several reports from people whose glasses charge correctly only when plugged into the charge cable directly from the USB-C port on the glasses, and do not charge correctly when placed in the charging case. This seems to occur even when the case is fully charged. Glasses may not report a charge at all, or the connection may be intermittent.

In order to get to the bottom of the problem, we are asking for those affected to get in touch. Please email me directly at BBra...@agiga.ai with your name and your EchoVision account email address and let me know that you are affected by this issue. Even better if you can describe your particular symptoms. We are currently working to define next steps to address this problem.

Appreciate your assistance and your patience as we work to get all the bugs and kinks and hiccups and. … worked out.

Buddy,

I don't think that I am havingt this case connection problem but I do have a suggestion that might help. Since the case has a beeper which is used to announce the battery charge level, why not use that same beeper to indicate when the glasses connect and disconnect from the case. That way users would have audible feedback that their glasses are connected and charging.

Hi Gene,

That’s a pretty good idea. I don’t know what sort of modifications would be needed to affect that sort of function though. Another idea that was brought up is that instead of sound, a later iteration of the case would use haptic feedback. I think that’s one worth exploring, though I’m fairly certain we couldn’t do it in this release cycle.

Buddy,

I suspect that it would be a software change as I believe the charging case is microprocessor controlled. But that is only an educated guess.

Great suggestion, Bob

A haptic device would work too and be accessible to the deaf blind, but it would require a hardware change so it would be more involved.

Hi,

I’m sure there’s a microprocessor in the ase, but whether the control firmware can be modified or not, I don’t know. It could be all in nonvolatile ROM that cannot be changed short of changing the chip where it’s stored.

I just discovered that I have this problem too, my case was blugged in and my glasses were in the case all night. Yet when I put them on this morning, it said the batteries were only at 95%, not the 100% I was expecting. So I guess I'll assume the case is not a charging case and plug the glasses in directly until this issue is resolved.

95% is within the expected range. The glasses will charge up to close to 100%, sometimes as high as 100%, but then will disconnect from power to both prevent overcharging and somewhat preserve the case battery, while leaving the glasses ready for use. They will then reconnect to power once they get below a certain threshold. So what they report when you take them out could vary depending where in this cycle they’re removed.

Oh, it is things like this that it would be nice were in a user's guide. Without it I would have gone on thinking that my glasses and the case were not working together.

Yes, I do plan to give the user guide some attention. Eventually. Keep in mind that it was put together from beta hardware. I understand it is in need of work. But these are the reasons we have the pioneers program to begin with.

Buddy,

I know, that was supposed to be a suggestion, not a criticism.

Here's a tip if you are having problems getting your glasses to charge in the case. Hold the glasses and the case close to your ear as you insert the glasses into the clip on the case. When they connect, the glasses will say "power connected", this way you know that your glasses are connected to the case and should be recharged. I still think it would be better if the case used its battery level beeper to signal when the glasses connect and disconnect from the case.

Yes, this is one of the small differences I have noted between the meta and the echovision glasses.
I hear thing when I put the echos in the case.
