This was interesting. They put both glasses in a side-by-side test in four different scenarios.  It's about 20 minutes long. If you were testing, what thing might you try?
Meta Glasses vs EchoVision: Showdown in the Thunder Dome!, @VisionForwardTechConnect,

This is very interesting, as I thought about doing a similar thing. I would not have necessarily thought of the food directions part but that was a good idea. I would have definitely done some sort of reading task, some scene description, and some identification tasks. I also found the Uno thing interesting. I once played a card game successfully, but at the time had to use Seeing AI to do it since the glasses weren't around. Bonus: I won the game.

When I got the meta ray-bans  in late 2024,  one of the main reasons was to be able to read ingredients  and directions on bottles, jars, boxes and bags of food.

As so sadly shown in the utube video,  this is not an area where meta really shines.

One of my first criticisms of meta was how it tells too many lies.

If you want to call this  the ai learning curve, so be it.

But after a year and a half,  I think   these errors should be ironed out of the meta ai app by now.

No, echovision is not perfect, but it is much better than meta.

Everything you said on the medical glasses, I agree with you 100%
And also I never knew that Meta keeps track of your information.
I would’ve never gotten the glasses had I’ve known this.
The only thing the glasses really helped me is being hands-free with Be My Eyes and when I want to use them for when I’m on the phone or trying to read something
And as you stated, that’s basically a waste of time as well
Thanks for reading regarding this matter.

I’m pretty sure that was a dictation error, or AutoCorrect. In regards to the topic at hand, I knew that they were saving your information, because Meta is the same company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. I didn’t necessarily love the idea either, but it was kind of like, what do you do? Do you not get the glasses, and not have the independence, or do you deal with the company, and just be careful with what you share? Also, I believe you can delete your history, but don’t quote me on that.

Yes, I thought it could hve been a dictation thing;  who knows.

I was totally aware of the less than pristine reputation of  meta in all it incarnations.

I try not to use it for personal data,  but sometimes the choices are limited.

C’est la vie.

LOL, I think dictation is biting some folks here.

Hopefully, dictation and all its quirks will not lead to any serious intergalactic complications.

You mean like when the aliens ask, “We’d appreciate your help. However, if you don’t help, we will leave you in peace.” … And when you decline to help, they said, “Oh wait. We had a translation problem. If you decline to help, we’ll leave you in pieces.”

Oops.

Yeah, that wouldn’t be great.

Indeed, this was interesting. i saw someone say that this seemed to be staged. I’d say that a certain amount of staging goes into any Youtube video, but I think that their criticisms were fair, as were their conclusions. As to the first test though, I can see how EchoVision might have misread $1392.71 as $1392.11. 7 and 1 are kind of similar, depending, in print, so I can see how that might happen. Not sure how it missed the date for the due date though.

Well of course it was somewhat staged, but even they said it behaved unexpectedly in one part. You can't exactly fake that. Nonetheless, I too can see where the error would occur, but sadly that could lead to issues. I'm pretty sure the credit card company won't take "My glasses read the total wrong," as a good excuse for not paying the bill correctly.

It’s true that they wouldn’t take that excuse, but this has of course been an issue as long as OCR has been fairly commonplace. I’d be somewhat amused by a $0.60 bill the following month though, if the balance was paid in full, or rather, that was the intention for a payment.

Yeah, sadly I think some financial things and/or important documents where every minute detail matters are still going to require human assistance or an accessible electronic copy. And, the sad part, they probably would charge that $0.60 bill, and these days it costs more to send the payment if you do that via check, or sometimes a convenience fee is more than that.

The second test with the food directions couldhave been better. On the Agiga glasses they used text detection which is essentially OCR. So make a more apples to apples comparission they could have asked the Meta glasses something like “Hey Meta read all of the text word for word or something similar. Just asking it to read gets the AI summary which is probably sourced from the internet.
