Dear Friends,

I am a blind 77-year-old in Virginia. I do not yet have EchoVision smart glasses but am very interested. My main interest in becoming a user is in order to sort through my books and read some.

I am curious to know what the glasses can do to orient me in getting from one place to another. If, for example, I stand in my backyard and take a picture. Can I tell the glasses to guide me to a specific tree?

Warmly,

Ralph

The EchoVision glasses can definitely provide assistance in identifying books and periodicals as well as reading them.  The current three action (or AI) modes of Scene Description (Q and A), Live AI and Reading Mode offer powerful capabilities in this regard.

In terms of orientation and providing directions to something, the answer is a bit nuanced.  The glasses can be a valuable tool in assisting with this, but due to the latency in providing you information it is not recommended that they be used alone as an orientation and mobility tool.  User's should always primarily rely on their fundamental orientation and mobility training for that.  So long as you understand the limitations of this technology you can learn to use it as a valuable supplement to your O&M skills.

The following link will take you to a list of informational resources for the EchoVision glasses:

I hope this helps.
