I was able to create shortcuts for having my hotspot turned on and off for connecting and disconnecting Wi-Fi. Yesterday I went to a restaurant and connected to their guest Wi-Fi. The glasses told me that authentication failed. With this possibly be because of a weak signal?
Question two. When I try to connect to the cars Wi-Fi, it prompts me for the Wi-Fi password, which I enter. It momentarily says Wi-Fi connected, followed by Wi-Fi disconnected. Any thoughts on this?
Question three. How can I determine if my glasses are connected to a hotspot? Should the glasses announce this? I have read so many threads on various posts that I wanna make sure that I understand this concept. Thank you.

Hello Lynn,

Agiga pointed out during various webinars that public Wi-Fi networks are not supported which is most likely why you could not connect to the Wi-Fi network the restaurant offers to their guests.

You then ask about the "car's Wi-Fi", but I assume you mean to the car's Bluetooth system since I am not aware of a car broadcasting a Wi-Fi network unless somebody had a dedicated personal hotspot permanently installed in their vehicle.

If you wanted to send whatever the glasses tell you through the car's Bluetooth sound system, you would have to treat that like an external audio device,, i.e. you would go into the EchoVision app, tap on Settings, then go to External Audio and if necessary the car's Bluetooth system may have to be put in pairing mode. Apart from hearing the glasses' output over the car's speakers, there is absolutely no benefit in connecting the glasses to a vehicle's Bluetooth system.

Finally, if you connect to your personal hotspot, I believe if I remember correctly all you hear is "Wi-Fi connected". However, you can press the camera button (on the left arm of the glasses) 3 times and it will then announce the battery level as well as the name of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to. In my case, it would say "Sieghard's iPhone 16 Pro" if I am not at home or at my business where it automatically connects to either my home Wi-Fi or the Wi-Fi at my store.

I have not yet found it necessary to set up these shortcuts to connect to the personal hotspot because so far each time I wanted to use the glasses when not at home or at twork, all I would have to do is to say "Siri, turn on personal hotspot". The other day I had left personal hotspot on, but as soon as I askd Siri to turn it on, it sayd "Sieghard's iPhone is now discoverable" or something along those lines and this was followed instantly by my glasses telling me that Wi-Fi was connected.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hello, I've only heard of one person having physical Wi-Fi in their car. But I never actually looked into it to see how it actually worked. And I don't see that particular cousin very often and if I do end up seeing her again, I will definitely look into seeing how it works. So that maybe you could maybe look into getting the glasses connected.

Hello, just another thought. Maybe it's treating the car's Wi-Fi as like it's a public Wi-Fi. That is a not a very good connection. I would consult with the dealer to see why the glasses will not connect.

As I said, the only way to have Wi-Fi in a vehicle is either via a hotspot which would be a physical device or if somebody had Starlink satellite internet in their vehicle.

Thanks so much for answering my questions. Sorry if I use the wrong terminology, but I am learning as I go along. Great information and once again sincere thanks

I'll bet it's because it Starlink has a terms of service agreement you have to agree to to use it, just like public hotspots that we already know can't be used.

I wouldn't either when there's a free mobile hotspot on the phone.

Just to clarify, it is a mobile hotspot with T-Mobile. But I am still unable to connect using the hotspot password. And I probably didn't listen to a lot of the webinars that they had because they held them during the times that I was working. So anyway, thanks for the info.

You might want to prowl around their site, or if they have one, try looking at their youtube channel. As far as I know, they made those webinar recordings available for those of us who couldn't or didn't want to attend the live session.

Can you describe exactly what you do, step by step?
And the T-Mobile hotspot you describe, is this in the vehicle?

The T-Mobile hotspot turns the car into Wi-Fi I guess. I'm not exactly sure about all the terms. But I do know that we pay for the hotspot in the car to give us Wi-Fi. I turn on the hotspot on my phone and it shows the password. When I get in the car, I choose the cars network and then it asked me to login with the password. I put the password in and it keeps telling me it's not correct. I know it's the correct password. This has happened repeatedly.

Maybe that is true in Canada but wifi is an option on some models here in the US. The way it works is that you pay per month for the LTE connection, just like you pay for your cell bill. Companies like OnStar offer it. The car has a wifi network in it which you connect to just like you connect to your home wifi.

I think you may be confusing two different things. There is the t-Mobile hotspot on your phone which has its own password. And, there is the wifi from the car’s infotainment system, which is what you pay for each month, which has an entirely different password. Unfortunately, you will probably need to have a set f eyeballs look at the car’s screen to obtain the correct password. Good news is that usually you only have to do that once.

My apologies, it’s probably just because I have not really looked into this very much and just assumed it was not something very common.

Hi all
Lynn-
1. When you turn on your personal hotspot in your phone and connect it to the EchoVision app, your phone is already authenticated to cellular data and your EV glasses see your hotspot as a private home wi-fi network. Although this method of turning the personal hotspot on the iPhone was not always consistent with me. I had to create a automation personal hotspot shortcut which works great for me now when I leave my house and use the EV glasses outdoors.

Authentication failed because the restaurant has a captive portal which is their login webpage. This means that when you connect to the public wi-fi, such as (restaurants, cafes, cruises, airports, hotels etc) their network requires accepting terms/conditions, entering password or your room number.
The EchoVision smart glasses does not have a web browser in order to interact with their web page.

2. Perhaps, your EV glasses are not connecting to the car’s wifi at the time because it is still trying to connect to the restaurant or holding any other wi-fi you have connected to prior.

3. Checking to see what wi-fi your EV glasses are connected to- Open the EchoVision app, select settings, open Wi-Fi, and scroll to see what wi-fi is connected. In the Wi-Fi settings, you will see a list of available wi-fi/hotspots.
your private home wi-fi should be selected when you are home, and your hotspot should be selected when you are away from home, considering you have authenticated your login information in the app.

Sometimes I had to reboot glasses, forget glasses or even perform a factory reset in the Device management settings in order for the EV glasses to behave again after making changes to my wi-fi/hotspot.

Best,
Vivi A.

Thank you all so much for the information and Support. I am learning a lot about Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth and hotspots :-) I ended up connecting to my phone and tried the glasses outside and they worked fine. Very exciting!
