Howdy everyone,

Believe it or not I wasn't aware of EchoVision Glasses until last week.
Found out about them by accident, and I'm glad I did.

I preordered last Saturday, but still have a couple questions.

I realize that one can call Aira and BeMyEyes, but can one call a family
member or friend for help? Maybe one could use Facetime on IOS or
whatever the Android equivalent is.

Also, question 2.

There appears to be two reading modes. How does one read say, envelope
addresses to see who your mail is from and restaurant menus. Is there a
mode for that versus reading a book?

aOkay one more question. Have the glasses been tested with an EReader
like Kindle? I do realize that Kindle has a screenreader, but there are
books that don't allow it to be used.

Okay that's it for all the questions.

Thanks in advance.

Rob

Hi,
1. I've just heard on a recent webinar that if you use facetime, or other apps like Whatsapp to call a friend, you will get the sound through the glasses, but the camera feed will still come through your phone.
2. My understanding is that the dedicated reading mode is OCR, and is meant for reading simple text in books. The scene description mode, which implements AI, will also read more complicated text such as magazines or flyers, and you can ask it followup questions. I'm guessing that, as with AI on other products, you would get a summary of information in this mode, rather than a top to bottom reading of the text.
3. I don't know how reliable the reading of text from the screen of another device would be. This would likely depend on lighting, clarity of text, distance from the screen, etc.

Hello all.

I became aware of EchoVision a few days ago, and have joined this group. I might have heard about EchoVision earlier about the same time a competitor product was announced, and confused the two.

Anyway, a clarification on this thread from Agiga would be appreciated. Is it in fact correct that the glasses could not be used as a camera with the phone when for example calling someone through google meet? Is the USB port only for charging, or can that be used to provide the video feed from the glasses to another device?

If this functionality will not be available at launch, is it planned for the future at some point, or does the hardware simply not support sharing the camera feed? I'm considering pre-ordering, and definite answer to this question will play a big part in my decision. Thank you.

That is correct, unlike the Meta smart glasses which can be used with Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp to provide the video feed, currently EchoVision glasses cannot do that. And of course if you talk about Google Meet or possibly Zoom or Teams, then the same applies, you would have to use your phone’s camera for that.

I believe Agiga is looking at making it possible for EchoVision glasses to provide the video feed for apps like WhatsApp and hopefully Facetime if Apple even allows that. But even if it were possible on WhatsApp that would definitely be a step in the right direction.
