Here are Xiaoran and Amy answering questions and demoing the EchoVision glasses on the Double Tap show. Their segment begins at about 12 minutes. Enjoy.

Thank you,

Buddy, I am so sorry that you were not at the CSUN
Conference. The glasses didn’t work because of the hotel’s wifi.

I would so appreciate accessible smart glasses with built-in cellular access. I know the complexities of convincing carriers to support them in the manner that they do for smart watches, would pose a challenge to developers. But I have small wrists and a smart watch is very bulky for me and the bands are huuuuge!
I’m so glad that the Echo Vision Smart Glasses are what they are in their current form.
I’m in the midst of moving into a new home and this package that arrived the other day with the pioneer Edition inside, is something I cannot open just yet. If I do, I’ll be paying extra rent on this apartment which is pretty inflated since it’s not under a lease, would be for the time spent with experiencing the Echo Vision. 😁
I went to install the echo app in advance of getting my glasses today. The android app seems to only have an email and password field available and no sign up or anything like that.
There’s nothing else in the signup screen when swiping with talkback?
Anyone else seen this or what am I doing wrong?

They needed Buddy to represent them.
For now, that is what we have to do. The problem is that in that scenario, we are still tied to our phones. When the phone dies or is otherwise not available, we can’t use our glasses.

hi,
Bob, the hotel wifi probably wasn’t “broken”. Many public wifi, including hotels, regulate traffic in a number of specific ways that I wont get into that may cause many devices not to work.

I’ll do that, after I get moved and I can sure use them but obviously the signal probably won’t be strong enough to get me to the mailbox. Will manage though LOL!
Having a “chip” attached to our central nervous system definitely won’t be something which happens in our lifetime and probably not in the lifetime of those who are now small children. Apart from the fact that we are a long way from this being possible, the question is if I would want such a chip. I am all for technology helping us (the blind) and others with disabilities, but can you imagine the consequences of such technology? If you had such a chip which was connected to some sort of version of what now is the internet, who would prevent bad actors from hacking into your chip and doing all sorts of stuff? What about government overreach? I am far from being a conspiracy geek, but given all the stuff that is happening even now with people falling for all sorts of scams and hacks, I don’t think it would be a good idea.
As for smart glasses having an integrated cellular modem, well, maybe it’s possible now, but it would be super expensive because the miniaturization to make all these components small enough and at the same time have a battery big enough to run all of this hardware just does not exist yet or if it does, it would be as I said super expensive. I predict it will also take many more years before we see this. Yes, you do have it in an Apple Watch or other smart watches, but they typically don’t have a camera and they are also a lot thicker than the stems of a pair of sunglasses.

Amanda, as I said I long for cellular equipped smart glasses. However, that is just a stop-gap measure. Why is the tech wearable at all? Eventually we’ll have the chips directly attached to our central nervous system and there will be no need for any external technology.
Amy, understood. What we were saying is that if you don’t have a public network to use, you have to use the hot spot on your phone which still ties the glasses to the phone. We’re not at the point of a fully stand-alone product quite yet.
Agiga never claimed that EchoVision was a stand-alone product and for that matter netiher are any of the other smart glasses including the commercially available models from Meta. I predict it will be quite a few years before we may have smart glasses which can do all they can do now without any sort of phone connection.

Ya I just got the glasses and did the same. Still waiting. Kind of a basic issue and speaks to maybe them having more iOS beta testers than android ones?
easier to fix. w
