Hi list, this morning I was leaving the house to do some business.

Ā

I had a printed invoice from a medicaloffice to take to blue cross for a refund.

Ā

I put on the glasses and put them in reading mode to make sure I had the correct document

Ā

Ā

When it got to the date it said;

Ā

ā€œSeptember 1, 2026.

Ā

Of course, this is impossible.

Ā

I read the same document on my win11 pc using nvda andĀ  the zira voice from micro soft one core voices.

Ā

It read the date as;

Ā

ā€œ09 slash 01 slash 2026ā€

Ā

Which I interpret as January Ā 9th 2026.

Ā

Because I remember that being the right time of year.

Ā

Is there a problem with different speechengines interpreting the date differently?

Ā

Thanks,

Ā

9/1/2026 is interpreted as September 1, 2026 in the US and January 9, 2026 in Europe.

Canada likely follows the European interpretation of turmeric dates.

Perhaps the glasses could understand your home country and interpret the date correctly based on that.

Seems like a minor point

No, it is not a minor point when you are checkinga documentĀ  and echo says it is dated for next month.

That is not minor at all.

Ā

I would beĀ  a fool to go to claim a refund for a receipt that was dated for next month.

In the commonly used date format in the US the month comes first, then the day, then the year, not the day first, then the month, then the year that is common elsewhere. So, the glasses were correct in reading 09/01/2026 as September 1, 2026 since they use the US format.

Monty,

Ā

If the date says 09/01/2026 then here in Canada and in the US this typically means September 1, 2026. However, in Germany and I assume other European countries, the date format is not MM/DD/YYYY or in other words month/day/year, but it is DD/MM/YYYY. If you write out the date of August 5, 2026, you would write 5. August, 2026 or 05/08/2026

If the date was in fact formatted as 09/01/2026 then I would expect the EchoVision glasses to follow the North American standard and read it as September 1, 2026 which they apparently did. Obviously if that is how it was written and that invoice was from January 9, 2026 then your doctor's office or whoever issued the invoice is following the other date format and that is not the fault of the glasses.
