Britain's National Theatre is allowing free streaming on YouTube of
their 2011 theatrical adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein on
YouTube. Then, the Chicago Ethical Humanist Circle will convene a play discussion on it this coming Sunday, May 10. Contact kno...@aeu.org to get the Zoom meeting info for the discussion.
Directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), it starred Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Imitation Game) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting), in two performances recorded live:
- one in which Cumberbatch was Victor Frankenstein and Miller was the creature (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI88grIRAnY ),
- one in which Miller was Frankenstein and Cumberbatch was the creature (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl8jxNrtceQ).
Frankenstein
is the ur-robot story; more than 200 years ago, Shelley addressed the
moral responsibilities inherent in creating artificial life.
