Decolonizing Healthcare
Washington Ethical Society
10:30am

Seeking assistance for mental and physical distress can be a fraught experience.  Healthcare settings feature problematic power relationship shaped by professional roles, variable access to information and money, stigma, impairments, and of course the respective social identities of the individuals involved.  Communication breaks down; mistakes are made; people are harmed.  Is it possible to deconstruct this system and from its building blocks reconstruct a more just, equitable, and truly healing environment?  “Recovering physician” and therapist John Daken will be joined by mental health advocate Rachel Kallum Whitman to explore this challenging topic.
You can find our Zoom webinar at tiny.cc/wesplatform

Youth Forum: Building a Biocentric World
Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County
10am

Our Society’s youth employment program, Applied Biocentrism, is composed of young adults from across the area. After several weeks of work, what new insights have they gained about how the world operates? What is their individual vision for a greener, more inclusive, and more connected world? Join us as we listen to the voices of young adults as they share their own journeys, challenges, and successes.

The Zoom link may be obtained by emailing ad...@ethicalfocus.org before Sunday.

Life and Death Discussion group

The Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture is presenting this discussion group on Death and Dying, via Zoom, on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from 6:30 to 8:30.  We invite people from all backgrounds and ages to join us to talk about this often difficult subject.  In so doing we hope to lessen the fear and isolation that surrounds this inevitable event in everyone’s life.   We aim to create a safe place where all ideas are welcome, all fears can be expressed, all hopes can be supported.

Lucy's Children - Racial Justice Group

Lucy’s Children is a community effort to examine the fiction of Race in order to address the fact of Racism. Our plan is to provide information, opportunities, and events that can help us come together as a society to end racism. We will meet Fridays, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM, virtually at BSEC to plan our efforts, to share resources and related experiences.

All members of BSEC and their personal guests are welcome at the learning sessions of Lucy’s Children. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Ellen Raider at ellen....@gmail.com . Lucy was discovered in 1974 by paleontologists in Ethiopia. At that time she was the earliest known ancestor of the human species. This is why we call our group Lucy’s children.
