Dear Colleagues:

In the past, we have asked you to contact your state's chapter of the Poor People's Campaign and work with them as their projects coincided with our own work in support of a living wage, access to health care, and other human rights.  The PPC now plans a Mass Poor People and Low Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington, DC, and on to the Polls.  The March will converge on Washington, DC, on June 18.  The Polls will be happening now through November 8 (and beyond for runoffs).  AEU member Societies are encouraged to participate as they can:
  • To find out more about the Assembly and March, see Poor People's Campaign.  (You can register to attend virtually on this page as well.)
  • To find out where buses will be leaving near you, see Rally Rideshare.
  • You can donate here.  Union Theological Seminary is the fiscal sponsor of the PPC Assembly, so your donation will be tax deductible.
  • To support at a distance, consider organizing a local Assembly/March at your Society or in your community.  Consider rallying virtually with friends.
  • To support individually, announce your support for the Assembly/March on social media.  Include a picture of yourself and your sign on June 18.  (This is not as weird as it sounds.  My rally days are over, but I do sometimes--and will for June 18--send a notice to my neighborhood Facebook group--that I will be "rallying" in my front yard.  I get some driveby visits and waves and a satisfactory level of engagement on Facebook.  I think of this as outreach to people who might not otherwise see the larger rally.)
  • If you (or your Society) have not yet signed up for notices from your state's chapter of the Poor People's Campaign, please do so when you can.
While the EAC has decided to support the Poor People's Campaign, AEU is not in formal partnership with them.  We are working within the framework of "any honest conviction" and our shared desire to make the world more humane.

Peace and goodwill,

Carolyn A. Parker
