The Environmental Studies and Sciences (ESS) Forum is a service of the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS). The purpose of the Forum is to share information, facilitate respectful and inclusive dialogue, and build community amongst professionals and students engaged with environmental studies and sciences.

Subscription to the Forum is open to anyone interested in ESS and does not require paid membership in AESS. However, we encourage Forum subscribers to become AESS members by going to the AESS website here to join.

If at any time you have concerns or questions about the guidelines or any aspect of Forum activity, including potential violations of Forum guidelines, contact the Forum administrator team at media@aessonline.org. The Forum administrator team consists of the AESS Managing Director plus at least two members of the AESS Membership Committee.

ESS Forum Guidelines

Posts to the Forum are not screened prior to submission. Therefore, we expect subscribers to adhere to the Forum guidelines described below. Subscribers who do not comply with the guidelines will be contacted by the Forum administration team to explain the circumstances and/or issue a warning. Repeated or egregious violations of the guidelines will result in removal from the Forum The guidelines are as follows:

Topicality. Environmental studies and sciences (ESS) are broadly inclusive and the subjects welcome on the Forum reflect the diversity of its membership: educators, researchers, students, practitioners, artists, policymakers, and many others. Therefore, we expect subscribers to keep contributions to the list within the aegis of ESS, broadly interpreted.
Inclusivity. Sexism, racism, or any other trolling behavior will not be tolerated in any form and will result in immediate removal from the Forum.
No marketing or sales. This is a non-commercial list, meaning no sales or marketing emails are allowed, with the exceptions of program and curriculum offerings as well as Forum subscribers announcing their own books, films, art installations, etc., as long as the topicality guideline is followed.
No fundraising. Fundraising of any sort is forbidden on the AESS list. This includes direct appeals for support, recruitment to join a digital or other campaign, encouragement to vote for a particular candidate in a competition with a financial prize, etc.

The AESS Board of Directors reserves the right to modify these guidelines at any time—though, in the interests of supporting and promoting our community, we are not likely to do so without first discussing it with ESS Forum subscribers.
