We have done the first phase of xAPI implmementation using learning locker. The intention of this is for captuing leanring outcome.

We do not want to build another google analytics service but we want to extend the use of xAPI for web behaviour not too sure if we still want to use xAPI as a technology pattern to track it.

Any suggestions?

Hi Rock

We've already built something like Google Analytics scripts, we call wrappers, for popular behaviors on usual learning platforms. The wrapper is designed according to AcrossX vocab/profiles (Chinese and English doc. links here) and has dataviz available for visualizing those xAPI statements.  With the complication xAPI statements, if without pre-designed dataviz, the analytics will be pretty primary.

If you can identify all your web behaviors, we can check if any more behaviors needed to be added to our profiles.

From your last name, I am hoping you can read Chinese. There is a case in our Chinese CoP that leverages xAPI + machine learning for online marketing, obvious improvement has been obtained. The online behaviors include events across the web and mobile browsers. The write-up is here: http://xapi-cop.net/zh/2017/10/28/xapi-online-marketing/
e.g. bounce rate and exit rate down ~40%, click rate on pushed content up from 8% to 34%, call-to-deal rate up from 33% to 53%.
The conclusion is xAPI is much better than Google Analytics. :)

Rock

If you have WeChat or QQ acc. we can connect on them.
Recently we are coordinating xAPI Chinese CoP in China, had invited quite a few academic and industry experts.

Web analytics and user behavior tracking is a deeply researched area, with the largest companies in the world developing extremely efficient and comprehensive solutions for tracking billions of interactions.   There are probably more than 100 companies that have developed unique solutions for the monitoring and tracking of user behavior.  There are many open-source solutions as well.  ( piwik is my favorite )   These solutions are far more efficient in terms of memory / disk space / total number of simultaneous users and have lots of built-in analytics capabilities,  Some include geographic data on users,  tracking across multiple websites etc.   I would not recommend an xAPI  based solution for this kind of problem, as it adds far too much overhead, will not scale well to large numbers of users and will have real issues with analytics when the data sets hit 100's of gigabytes due to the inefficient record structure.

Broadly speaking, everything is now web behaviors.
The 4th industry revolution is about connecting everything onto Internet - physical, virtual and biological. (and enhance possible to connect to intelligent computing)
The barrier is now more on efficiently connecting data, less on ML/DL algorithms and computing power.
