Hi everyone!
As heralded before Christmas, we have now released a Node Manager upgrade that should address several of the issues all of you brought up over the past months regarding the management of a swarm (as opposed to a single node): now you can discover more swarm nodes in the Overview and mass-edit their configuration in the Settings menu. We’ll let this change simmer for a bit and wait for your real-world experience to trickle in before deciding whether this solution works well and covers all desirable use-cases.
Next on our agenda are several preparatory activities that will then allow us to make a good implementation plan for several large new features:
- improve documentation for troubleshooting to notice possible feature gaps in the admin area and inform the design of APIs for implementing a local swarm control plane (aiming for “feels like cloud but is local-first”)
- experiment with the precise rules for expiring (i.e. deleting) ephemeral events — this is needed so that we can offer end-user configuration of event retention policies without leading to weird bugs in your Pond-based applications
- sketch a proof of concept for handling high-rate sensor data, which has a decent chance of overlapping/clashing with the solution for ephemeral events within our infrastructure
Since these are mostly research activities, it will take a while until the above manifests in Actyx releases, but we’ll share what we learn here so that you can also add your perspective and experience.
Have a nice weekend,
Roland
