We are open sourcing Actyx! This means that you can view the source code, build your own releases, use those under the Apache 2.0 license, and — most importantly — contribute to the vision and the code itself.

Our reasons for taking this step are manifold. First, we aim to accelerate the uptake of the local-first cooperation paradigm by making it available not only to factories but in all other verticals (including academia) where we as a company don’t have the resources to invest. Second, we hope that this step will accelerate the innovation on this paradigm by providing more eyes, better ideas, a stronger feedback loop, more discussions etc. Third, this will lead to better product quality and a higher development pace as more people are contributing to Actyx.

As a consequence, you can see the Actyx source code at https://github.com/Actyx/Actyx and propose changes to it. We included detailed information on how you can build your own releases and use your own licensing keys if desired. We will of course continue to offer our commercial support for your application development, deployment, and maintenance, but this support is limited to the official Actyx releases found on our website.

Please don’t hesitate to raise any questions you may have, either here or by reaching me directly.

Regards,

Roland
