Hey folks.  I am writing to share some sad news with all of you.  For those who have been riding with the group for a while, you'll remember Wim de Baudringhien.  Sadly, we lost him to cancer yesterday after a 3 year battle.   For those who knew him, you know he had a huge heart and always shared what he had to the fullest, whether that meant bringing his chocolate fountain to a party or helping a friend at any time.   He also lived life to the fullest.  He burned brightly, but we lost him too soon   He will be greatly missed.  Please feel free to share your memories of Wim with the group.

The attached photo is from the trip to Belgium that Wim organized to ride the Tour of Flanders course and to watch the tour of Flanders in 2013.  It's the highlight of my cycling life and a memory I'll always cherish.   Thanks Wim. 🙏

Oh man, didn’t even know he was sick. Good dude, knows how to throw a party, and he will be missed. We’ll have to keep putting positivity forward in his honor.

Oh man. That’s awful news. Wim was a great guy, and so nice to me as a cyclist just getting back out on the roads after many years away from the sport.

I’m really gonna miss him; but happy to have the memories. :-)

So sad indeed!’ Wim was one of the most interesting and entertaining guy I have ever met.

He brought so much life to a party and always had a smile.

This was a huge shock. I hadn't seen Wim in a while and didn't know he was fighting cancer. Such awful, sad news, and a loss to the community.

RIP the Waffleman.

I just rode by UC to see Chris; Wim was a staple at the shop.

If there was a good time, Wim was there...if Wim was there, it was a good time.

Wim was one of our own. Always the most positive person in the room, we’ll miss him dearly.

We all remember Cx Worlds in Louisville where Wim decided he would be the “Belgian in A Closet”, so he could have his own room. How determined he was to win $100 Euros from friends back home if we got his banner on Eurosport (we did). He spent the rest of the day correcting our very bad broken Flemish with a smile on his face.

Wim was a founding member of the completely unplanned 36SR UN Sunday rides… (Belgium, England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, Jamaica.)

We remember how much he cherished his not so small pig, Maurice. We remember how many random limos Wim ended up in back in the day, and how many cell phones he left behind.

We remember his chocolate fountains, and his short foray into owning a crepe truck.

We will never forget the beach party he threw - in a cold rainy night in Noda. If anyone ever truly embraced life, it was Wim.

Rest easy, old friend.

Sucks. If you didn’t like being around that guy, it’s because you’re a douche. One of the few people who consistently made me smile on the rare occasions we saw each other.

Really sad news, it was impossible not to laugh and smile in his presence…no matter the situation. I remember he rolled up at Uptown Cycles in the truck one Saturday, hungover and an hour late to make breakfast for a bunch of cycling friends.  My hanger was cured instantly with some delicious waffles and 1,000 jokes from Wims escapades the prior night. He epitomized why we all ride and I will miss him.

Really sad to read this. From what I remember from 8-9 years years ago, he was so full of life! He seldom went unnoticed due to his jovial and gregarious nature! If there was laughter and jokes, Wim was sure to be found there! With such a bright presence, it's kind of hard to believe that the world has lost a good person like you.
You will always be a part of my happy biking memories in Charlotte!
Rest in peace mate.
