LIFE IS GOOD - CANADIAN PAIRS AND DANCE ROCK!!!!

Hurrah for Jamie & David and Shae-Lynn & Victor

Well deserved wins for both couples.

It can't get much better than this - Canada wins two gold medals, and
Yagudin wins gold as well !!!!

Pardon me while I gloat for a short time and savour these wins....
(Skategods - don't listen !!)

Honestly, I have a hard time understanding why A & P's FD is even ranked
close to that of B & K this year -- it strikes me as little more than a
series of gliding lifts with nowhere near the crispness or complexity of
footwork of the Canadians, who have really stepped up the difficulty of
their program compared to previous years. (FP&M didn't deserve to be
placed ahead of the Lithuanians either, but that would be hoping for too
much in one competition. :)

They weren't - in the end the Lithuanians won bronze - FP&M came fourth. As
for A&P's freedom FD - I thought it was overmarked. We were sitting there
and saying - stroke, stroke, lift; stroke, stroke, lift - etc etc. It is a
seriously BORING dance. I wonder if they're trying to gain "brownie points"
for using MLKing's freedom speech. Gaaaaack!!

You should have seen Anissina's face in the kiss 'n cry when she realized
they had come second to B&K. Open mouth shock - I guess she thinks that just
can't happen. I wonder if they'll keep this dance for the olys. They'd do
better with Carmina Burana.

That was my impression too. I've never been an A&P fan, but even when I
really didn't like them they at least seemed *dramatic*. (or to me, mostly
*melo*-dramatic.. ;) ) But after the first half I was wondering if there
was going to be more to it than posing. Every time they struck another one
of those poses I started to roll my eyes. It was so bland as to be almost
generic.

Although the Martin Luther King stuff wasn't nearly as cheesy as I thought
it would be, the voiceover seemed mostly in the background and was mostly of
the "let freedom reign" variety, which I suppose adds to the idea they were
going for with the program, but still... I was very underwhelmed by the
whole program.

Yes, they clearly expected to win - but then again I don't know if anyone
seriously thought B&K would win. I wish I could have seen FP&M's reaction
as well. I'm sure both teams are reeling.

Actually, in Dance, Men's and Pairs, I was quite happy to see the winners
win. In those events it was the case that the last skater was expected to
just take the win but the 2nd-to-last-place team's/skater's marks held up.
Especially pleased to see Yagudin win, but Pluschenko had the same reaction
as A&P - shock. But a little shock is good I think - keeps them from
getting to cozy at the top of the podium. ;)

Cheers,
Martha

I'm puzzled. Bourne & Kraatz WON? That's not what the arena screen showed.

Yes, Bourne & Kraatz won at GPF. <g> On the ABC broadcast, the arena
announcer was overheard reciting the final standings with Anissina &
Piezerat as the winners, but Terry Gannon explained that that was incorrect;
the initial confusion may have been due to the fact that the total factored
placements for B&K and A&P were both 3.0. B&K won since they placed first
in the second FD.

YUP - the scoreboard was wrong. The second FD was worth 50% and B&K won the
second FD, which tied them with A&P. According to some news reports the ISU
had a pow wow and awarded the win based on the scoring of the second FD. Hey
- I'm not gonna complain.

The rink announcer also noted they had been having problems with their score
board (that's their excuse anyhow). The change in standings was announced
later in the evening. And hey - they gave the gold medals to Shae and Vic.
Tee hee.

I remember hearing that, but I thought they just meant the one on the
opposite side of the arena (without the pictures) wasn't working. I don't
remember seeing it even turn on until the men's event.

I must have missed the announcement!

Which, of course, I missed.

LOL! Trudi, I thought you knew! They announced it after the men had finished, that there had been a mistake
earlier on the display board, and that Bourne & Kraatz had won. Didn't you hear the deafening roar from the
crowd?

Yes I agree, FP&M did not deserve a medal, whether they belong in the
top 6 for this Grand Prix is a question mark, I would put they in last
place in the Grand Prix and I do feel bad for them, ABC showed a nice
segment on them in Italy, and about their feelings being hurt by A&P's

nasty comments.

If B&K and Drobiazko & Vanagas skate like this in S.L.C. , they will
bring home a gold and a silver !

Yup, I was on my way to the bathroom when they announced it--my
seatmate told me when I got back. I was shocked! It was a nice
surprise! :o)

Do you have details of the "nasty comments" made by A&P?
