Don't forget Sumo wrestlers. I think the word is Rekishi? Not sure, been a
while. In any case, I recall that quite a few of the wandering heros in
Japanese stories were Sumo wrestlers.

Do you have any more suggestions for other roguelike themes? At
r.g.r.dev we had a discussion a while back on different themes. I
compiled the results in an article at my developmentsection:

If you or anyone else in this newsgroup has any more additions or
suggestions then please let me know...

Good idea. Now I'm wondering what will replace the Cleric and wizard...
hmmm. We could have characters/monsters like a Doshin God, a lot of
spirits/ghosts... I don't know, should look up the subject, if I knew it
would be worth my while.

But one of the first aspects of the game would be deciding which family
you would join. My favorite stories were about war, honor and the Kara-kiri.
Which was something like this, if a Shogun(general) wanted to get rid of
another family's shogun, he could hire a Ninja to assasinate him, which was
a Ninja's primary purpose. If the ninja or the shogun was caught with these
plans, the shogun would be greatly dishonored, and the only way to redeem
himself would be to create a sort of honorable suicide, which is kalled the
Kara-kiri. It was a short blade used specifially for killing one's self, I
beleive through the gut. Every Shogun had one.

Actaully, the above is virtually the same as a Kamikazi pilot. Through
crashing his plane into an enemy target he gained honor more than he could
wish for and a better afterlife. If america had decided to invade Japan
instead of using the A-bombs, America could have had a moderate chance of
losing. The Japanese were wonderful worriors and fought fearlessly. During
WW2 even the women were trained basic fighting skills via the government in
case an invasion came.

I suppose now their fearlessnes and strenghtis devoted to buisness, as
Japan thrives on it.

Shugenja?

Maybe the theoretical Roguelike could be similar to the Legend of the Five
Rings tabletop RPG in setting, if not in system. This is not to be confused
with the trading money pit^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hcard game of the same name.
