Finally, I'm back to commenting on Futurama starting with Anthology of Interest
II, which was a hilarious tour de force, especially Raiders of the Lost Arcade,
which had many ROTFLMAO moments (Zoidburg in Pac-Man world, ASS initials).

TiVo is one of many TV set recorders available in the market. These devices
allow you to record programs on television without the confusion of programming
a VCR. Among the features on these devices includes one where the recorder
would automatically record your favorite shows as well as record shows that the
device feels you may like.

Zero Wing is a mediocre shooter video game that was released for the Sega
Genesis in Japan and Europe, yet never arrived on American shores. However, it
was able to receive some popularity in America thanks to one thing: the
Europeon version of the game, thanks to some awful translating to English, has
some of the funniest examples of bad translation. Among them is a simple quote
going, "All Your Bases Are Belong To Us." That line has quickly become a
recurring joke on the Internet, even inspiring a song about it.

Nitpick here, it was an Asteroids ship, but it was blue, like the ship
in Asteroids Deluxe.

>Battlezone

In the correct green color at that!

>Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, Burger Time

When Q-Bert spoke, it was similar to the game, but it sounded like
something that was played backwards.
Don't forget the green robot from Bezerk.

So that's where it came from.

I liked the part when General Pac dies, it's just like the game, and I
loved the way Ms.Pac cried, with a "wokka wokka wokka" thrown in.

Another one to add, after Donkey Kong goes up on the roof of the UN,
he jumps around and the floors slope, just like the beginning of the
game.

Quick note: there were two alien language references, botl FAL1, I believe.
One was probably just TALES OF INTEREST, although I haven't decoded either
yet. The other was printed on the professor's money in the WOO tale.

I thought the video game tale kicked butt!!

Also a robot from Berzerk...and don't forget Mario's appearance!

Three new ways to start the what-if machine:
* Pulling a string like a speaking doll
* Pulling a large lever like a poker machine
* Lighting insense and paying homage

The video game sequence looked like the "Golden Shower" video that went
round the net about a year ago
(http://boldra.com/images/incoming/y2000/?f=vcs_clip.mov 6M, no it's not
rude)

Bender usually smokes, eats and womanises despite not being able to
taste or feel. He smokes because it makes him look cool, and usually he
only womanises with other robots.

The toaster's third appearance as a character,
s02e19 mothers day: "The toaster's not working right either"
s02e08 Raging Bender: "I've taught the toaster to feel love"

> Amy has won a Nobel Prize?

I don't think so:
Prof: "It worked! Eat it, everyone who's never won a nobel prize! And
that includes *you* Amy!"
Amy cries.

Which seems to imply that she's tried to win one and failed.

> Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
> -One of the Munchkins is an Oompa Loompa (or Grunka Lunka, as they are called
> in Futurama)

Munchkins:

pathetic lame robot
oompa-loompa
kid with dreadlocks?
cubert
neptunian
slug from wormulon

references:

Hermes limbos under Bender's Spit (a flight to remember)

Leela has a boot joke (anthology of interest 1 and others)
Amy acting cute irks Leela (when aliens attack and others)
Fry's not really that good at video games (Space pilot 3000)
Hermes is after Farnsworth's will (anthology of interest 1)

Questions:
Where did the "blue key" for the war room come from? I thought it
looked like an "Emerald Mine" key, but that's not the same era as most
of the other games.
Who are Katrina and Zan-bor? (Beginning of second story)

All up a great episode, fast-paced jokes, excellent animation and good
characterisation. My personal favourite since Cyberhouse Rules. Thanks
to the Swedish website that let me download it so quickly ;)

Most old games used coloured keys, so i don't think it is a reference to any
specific game

The whole episode was priceless, but for some reason, that particular part
had me howling!

Great stuff.

ok, some of my notes below, including the translations of the alien language

Two new FAL1 (Futurama Alien Language #1) references:

1) TALE OF INTEREST
(really nice graphics of the letters in this one, too)

2) in the upper right hand corner of the Professorland Fun Bucks:
TOXIC INK

random notes:

?* ok, I know Scruffy, but who are Katrina and Xanthor?

* Video game references: Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Mario, Milatari HQ (mil
ATARI !!), they come out of tunnel like in Mario, when they first leave the
room with General Colon Pacman (ref: General Colin Powell?), they move out
the right side of the screen and then re-enter from the left... then they
head to the pacman playing area (reference to the tunnels in pacman).

* Fry writes A-S-S for his initials for the high score

?* what game is the FRIED EGG from that gets off the landing space ship?

* the manwitch (reference to Manwich---e.g. big sandwich?) that Leela landed
on in Wizzen was Scruffy. He was in the Twilight-Zone like black and white
part wearing striped stockings and boots, and has man sized feet.. the boots
and striped stockings stuck out from under the ship. So we now know that
Leela and Scruffy share the same shoe size. Also, does this mean that
Scruffy is evil? Mom is evil, and she was the other witch. Of course, Leela
is not evil and she became a witch too, but it was her dream...

* Fry says something like "we've been skipping for hours.. i've got to pull
over and take THE WIZ."

* DAMN THIS DSL! (Mom-witch, when her video monitor goes cruddy)

I see no company having a represantative in the united nations. Mario is the
represantative of Italy, not of Nintendo.
The only other videogame company reference I see is "Mil_ATARI_ HQ".

Some more video game refrences:

On the way to the war room, theres signs on the doors:

Missile Command
Secrtary of Defender
Moon Patrol

And in the war room, theres games on the screens in the background:

Centipede/Milidede (con't remember the exact title)
Another game, but I dont know the name (it might be before my time)

Also, wouldn't General Colin Pac-man be called Colin Pac-person, according
to an arcade on the moon (1ACV02)

=v= It's weird to think of Bender as "womanising" (or as we
Yanks spell it, "womanizing"), because I don't tend to think
of those bots as women ... though I admit the Lucy Liubot made
me do a doubletake.

=v= It occurs to me that if something the size and shape of The
Crushinator is a standard of beauty, it would've made sense to
re-fossilize Bender at the end of the segment.

during an Anthology of Interest? :^)

=v= I don't do much in the way of video games, but there used to
be something in the arcades called "Burger Time" with all sorts
of food running around.

Hmm... Scruffy has appeared in many episodes.
Maybe Katrina is from some kids cartoon? Xanthor looks suspiciously like a
Vulcan. Has there ever been reference to either them in another Futurama?

I'd tend to think that re-fossilization would have killed him (considering
he had lived). Humans would die when being turned into minerals, but who's
to say de-fossilization is fatal to minerals. :D

=v= Okay, here's something about [3ACV18] that's really silly,
but it has bugged me: Human Bender says "butt" instead of
"ass." Why? Note that "ass" is his favorite word, followed by

customary use of "shiny" and "metal," but what stopped him from
saying "ass?"
